Jessie Cocks

International Presenter, Founder and Facilitator of SpiritBody Resources©, honors the Ancestors behind you, the Animal Spirit in front of you, and the Fire inside you, with a strong, clear, open heart. Jessie connects Spirit to the Body utilizing breath, voice, movement, meditation, humor, art, ritual, Nature and Reiki.

Born in 1950 she was raised riding and training thoroughbred racehorses. Jessie's time in Nature and extensive life experience continues to be her greatest teacher for this work. Her passion for justice compelled her to respond to Martin Luther King Jr.'s call for a Poor People's Campaign. Jessie's dedication led her into full-time organization of both local and global social change. Throughout this career of conscience, Jessie has impacted the areas of Women's Rights and Protection (In 1977, she helped start the battered women's center in West Chester, PA and was its first Director), Environmental Education, and Peace and Justice. She co-founded the American Peace Test in 1985 (non-violent direct action to end nuclear weapons testing) and was part of the late Carl Sagan's seven person think tank on building a mass movement for social change (1986-88). Music, being a universal language and a powerful healing tool, was yet another avenue for Jessie to impact her community. She co-founded a record company, producing a number of recordings (1990-1995) and is a lifetime member of Women in the Arts, Inc. For over three years, Jessie was a participant and student of movement therapy based on Anna Halprin's Life/Art Process. She is an occasional nonviolence trainer and resource for Training for Change in Philadelphia, PA and other like-minded organizations. Since its 1999 inception, until March 2004, Jessie sang in the Rainbow Chorale of DE, Delaware's only LGBT chorale, and was President for two years. Jessie is currently studying and weaving Process Work and Playback Theatre into her work. In 2000 she cofounded Philadelphia Queer Playback. It was an improvisational troupe of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender folk supported by friends and allies. 2002 Pamela Freeman, Sarah Halley & Jessie cofounded Playback For Change, a multicultural improvisational theatre troupe in Philadelphia dedicated to social activism and change. She is also part of The Community Team for Peace and Reconciliation in Kennett Square and a Kennett Square Democratic Committeeperson. She offers Reiki Plus ~Reiki energy work including toning, aromatherapy, crystal singing bowls, didgeridoo and drumming. Jessie also facilitates Reiki classes, SpiritBody workshops and/or individual sessions, Playback Theatre classes, House Clearings and other ceremonies, as requested.
